When the wind blows....

Had a spare couple of hours this afternoon so thought I'd try a bit of spinning on the lake in spite of the howling gales and drizzle. Nothing for 90 mins then suddenly had an amazing half hour as darkness began to fall. I caught 4 fish in 4 casts, scout's honour! 8lb pike, 3lb jack, lovely 2lb+ perch and finally 7lb+ pike - all on light spinning gear and 8lb line, fantastic fun! Thanks to the 2 guys who helped me net and unhook the first and last pike as the swim was steep and slippery.

Re: When the wind blows....

Really?? What type of lure?

Re: Re: When the wind blows....

Yes really, I still can't quite believe it myself. Lure was a small soft-bodied perch lookalike.

Re: When the wind blows....

I use the small soft-bodies roach lookalike lures...might get some of the slightly larger size to see if they have any luck on various waters too. Weather permitting I'm gonna try Cowley Lake tomorrow (I have a few days off work)...

Re: the lake

It was called that when controlled by Boyer in the late 80's early 90's.......

Re: Re: the lake

OK, anyone remember why? Must be a bovine connection somewhere along the line.

Re: the lake

Maybe it was a cattle farm before it became a 'pick your own'??

Re: Re: the lake

Just had a look through my records and the have my membership cards from Boyer and it is actually listed as Calves Lane Lake. So, has the name of the road changed or is the road that runs parallel with Billet Lane (by the shallow end) called that?

Re: Re: Re: the lake

Billet Lane Gate

Hi Eddie
Thanks for the info.
If the gate is locked how do I get in, if I remeber there used to be numbers on the membership card for the tumblers on the padlock. I have looked at my card and in the book but can't find any mention of access numbers. Sorry to be a pain!

Re: Billet Lane Gate

Hi Alan
For obvious reasons, we would never give out lock combinations on the website.
ALL URACS lock combinations are on your green mambership card for 2009/2010. ( on the front page above the URACS logo )
cheers Ed.

Re: Billet Lane Gate

Went today for a change,I t was still very low with most pegs unfishable. I fished the car park end,got down onto the beach, and fished waggler with soft expander pellet as close to the left hand side bushes and snags as I dared. One common carp of about 8lb was the only bite all afternoon.A large ghostie kept swimming in and out of the snags,at one point right in front of my footplate. If any new members want to learn about billet lane now is a good opportunity to see the lake very low,you can see exactly what you wont see next year when its full again..

Billet Newbie

Hi All?

I don't normally fish the lakes but the river is so poor at the moment I though I would give Billet a go. Is the entrance to the car park locked? also any advice on best place to fish for Roach, Rudd, and Perch etc would be appreciated, I’m not really interested in the Carp & Bream.

Many Thanks, Alan

Re: Billet Newbie

Hi Alan
Gate is ( or should ) always be locked.
The Roach and Rudd are all over, but my favourites for these great species are: facing the lake from then carpark the first three swims on the left bank have always produced for me. Also a good spot is follow the left bank until you reach the far corner... this is a cracking swim for Roach and Rudd. It is also quite comfortable, even with these dreadfully low levels.
Perch show up everywhere... take your pick.
Prepare to be grabbed by a big carp at any time.
