The F1 is a cross between a male Crucian and a female Mirror, the offspring are F1s which are only 2% fertile but grow at 10 to 15% faster than normal carp.
They can reach 12lb, but generally up to 2-3lb.
They can ONLY be stocked in enclosed stillwaters.
These are hardy little "mongrels"... and a free fishing lake near me is FULL of them !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Carp is our largest cyprinid... it feeds on silkweed and various other types of vegetation, it eats insects, molluscs and crustacea, it thrives on the larvae of midges and gnats... up on the surface it devours moths and insects and anything that falls on the surface.... What they do not eat off the surface are my dog biscuits, for which they have an acute sense of disgust !!!!

According to a little ditty within the pages of the Complete Angler:
" Hops and turkeys, carp and beer,
Came to England all in a year "
I thought the Monks brought carp to the UK, but according to Mr Walton, it was a chap called Mr. Mascal who lived in Plumstead,Sussex.
